FAMILY PATTERNS AND GENERATIONAL TRAUMA

Sometimes the difficulties we experience did not begin with us.

You may notice patterns in your family that repeat across generations, silence around emotions, unresolved grief, conflict, addiction, or a persistent sense of responsibility. Even when we try to live differently, these patterns can quietly shape how we relate to ourselves and others.

Generational trauma does not always look dramatic. It can show up as self-doubt, difficulty trusting, fear of closeness, or feeling responsible for holding everything together.

How Therapy Can Help

In therapy, we can begin to understand the family context you grew up in and how it may still be influencing you. This is not about blaming parents. It is about gently recognising what was carried forward and deciding what you would like to keep and what you would like to lay down.

Working relationally allows us to notice how these patterns show up not only in your life, but sometimes in the space between us. This awareness can create the possibility of responding differently.
